Foot Valves & Check Valves
A foot valve at the bottom of the suction line keeps the pump primed; a check valve in the discharge keeps water from running backwards when the pump stops. Both prevent the dry-run, water-hammer, and re-prime cycles that wear pumps out early. SMPC supplies brass, cast-iron, and plastic foot/check valves sized 1/2" through 6".
Types & Variants
| Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Foot Valve with Strainer (Brass) | Brass foot valves with stainless strainer baskets — keep priming water in, debris out. Standard on self-priming centrifugal and jet pumps. |
| Foot Valve with Strainer (Plastic) | Plastic foot valves for agricultural irrigation — light, corrosion-resistant, and economical. |
| Spring-Check Valve | Fast-closing spring-loaded check valves — prevent reverse flow and reduce water hammer. |
| Swing-Check Valve | Cast-iron swing-check valves for larger pipe sizes — low pressure drop, simple maintenance. |
